Luminous Egress Path Markings
During the day, and in the event of a complete power outage, Stairwell Safety Systems™ luminous egress path markings act as a second layer of protection for your staff, and especially visitors, who may not be familiar with your stairwells.
Anti-slip photoluminescent strips on each step guide those needing to leave the premises in an emergency situation quickly and safely out of your building. A combination of handrail and stair markings will greatly reduce the incidents of ‘slip and fall’ injuries which often occur in unmarked stairwells.
In 2009 the International Building Code (IBC) and the International Fire Code (IFC) added a new stipulation requiring luminous egress path markings in the means of egress (Section 1024 Luminous Egress Path Markings and Section 4604.23 for Existing Buildings). Photoluminescent or self-luminous exit path markings are now required in exit enclosures of new and existing high-rise buildings with Assembly, Business, Education, Hotel, Hospital/Institutional and Mercantile Occupancies as defined by the International Building Code (IBC – A, B, E, R1, I & M occupancy groups).
The driver behind this demand was to provide improved safety for individuals negotiating stairs inside a high-rise building by augmenting the visibility of stair treads, handrails and obstacles, under normal and emergency conditions, or in the event the emergency power supply fails to operate.
We are pleased to be able to offer you simple, easy and cost saving solutions to meet all your International Building and Fire Code compliance requirements.
